At George Mason University, we’re empowering our faculty and academic leaders—the ones who know their disciplines and students the best—to take the lead as we reimagine educational pathways to advance student success.
That work begins with a thoughtful examination of how academic programs are structured, delivered, and aligned with the needs of today’s learners. Academic units are encouraged to examine their curricula through multiple lenses—enrollment and completion trends, student outcomes, workforce needs, emerging technologies, peer practices, institutional barriers, and state and accreditation expectations—considering both what students need to learn and whether existing structures remain the best ways for them to achieve that learning.
To support this work, the Provost’s Office is providing the Reimagining Education to the Doctorate (RED) Resource Kit. The kit offers a flexible framework that schools and colleges can tailor to their disciplines, missions, and strategic priorities. Its purpose is not to prescribe a particular model or imply that every program should change. Rather, it's an opportunity to thoughtfully redesign academic programs by questioning existing assumptions while maintaining academic rigor and a focus on student success.
RED Resource Kit
The RED Resource kit provides faculty and academic leaders with the information, context, and tools to explore opportunities for innovation and improvement, creating more flexible, relevant, and sustainable educational pathways for the future.
The resource kit is designed as a SharePoint site intended for use by George Mason faculty and staff. To access the resource kit from off campus, first connect to the VPN.
The kit includes:
- Strategic Context – An overview of the drivers shaping George Mason’s efforts to meet evolving student needs amid a changing higher education environment
- Orientation Framework – Key questions and considerations for exploring program redesign options
- Program Structures – Options for redesigning academic programs at the undergraduate, undergraduate to graduate, and graduate levels
- Program Approval and Accreditation Information – Timelines and approval processes for modifying or creating new degree programs
- Contacts and Resources – Key contacts and additional resources for questions about specific topics related to the RED initiative
