George Mason University recently held its first-ever Qualitative Research Day, an event for PhD students of all disciplines to engage in hands-on and interactive opportunities with the goal of learning new qualitative research techniques and methodologies. The inaugural event is the latest innovation in George Mason’s ongoing efforts to find new ways to support its PhD students.

Graduate students now have a new resource to help them navigate the graduate school experience: Graduate Success Fellows.

George Mason University welcomed the largest incoming class in university history at New Student Convocation on Friday, with administrative, faculty and student speakers encouraging the newcomers to take full advantage of their academic and social opportunities, including robust campus involvement.

Fourteen George Mason University students, from a variety of majors, were chosen as recipients of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad. The U.S. Department of State’s competitive, merit-based Gilman Scholarship Program supports students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity.

For more than 30 years, the student-run bilingual literary journal Hispanic Culture Review (HCR) at George Mason University has published poetry, essays, and narratives in both Spanish and English and highlighted photography and visual art. HCR has been awarded a 2024 National Magazine Pacemaker Award by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP). Volition, George Mason’s undergraduate literary and arts journal, was named a finalist in the same category.

Mason history and art history doctoral student Timmia King is eager to explore new topics and gain insight into different people and their lives. With the support of a Graduate Inclusion and Access (GIA) Scholarship, she is able to delve into African American archives and cultivate attention and value to overlooked and obscured experiences

Mason was one of four universities selected for Generation Hope’s inaugural FamilyU Cohort, which is designed to help universities improve student-parent success.
